Halloween is a wonderful time for children for various reasons. They have a wonderful chance to dress up in kids Halloween costumes as their favorite characters. And then, once they are dressed up, they can go door knocking around the neighborhood asking neighbors for candy. And, of course, the more candy and treats they get, the happier they are! If your children seem unable to decide, you can give them a few choices by thinking about the films and videos they watch and the books and comics they read, or the toys they tend to play with. Once your children have decided on the characters they want to be, the next step is to obtain them. The choices are to make them borrow them, buy it them or rent them. What you decide will depend on your personal budget, the availability, and whether or not they will ever wear it again.

Costume shops are great sources for both purchasing and renting. You will be able to find patterns in craft books at your local craft shop or online. Always ask other people with children if they have a costume you can borrow, especially in these recession times. You may also be able to purchase it used from classified ads or an online auction site.

Making the Costumes
If you do decide to make Halloween costumes for the kids, make sure you do some planning in advance.  Don’t leave it until the last minute because you need to give yourself plenty of time to complete the project and allow time to fix up any mistakes or make improvements if necessary. However, no matter what you decide, the number one thing is to make sure your children are happy as they all look forward to Halloween!
